Zarate
|
What do you see his future at the club. He's got a 3 year deal by all accounts, but seemingly Allardyce is not a big fan, and he now finds himself well down the list of attackers.
Having gone from playing at the top of the diamond role 2 games ago, to now being being Downing, Amalfitano, Nolan, and in all likelihood Sam would push one of our other midfielders higher up, or pull Valencia in before getting Zarate a start.
With all the talk if this being a 'Sullivan signing', does he have a future with us?

He'll get his chances. He just has to prove how dedicated he is. He's got some healthy competition for his possible positions.
Luxury problems, we're talking about here.

Dissagree - He was the only one trying to make something happen. Come close as well.

Played well against Palace and in the first half v Hull (though faded in the 2nd half before coming off early)... very useful player to have coming in off the bench but he would appear to be disappearing down BFS pecking order, which is a shame. Zarate over Nolan anytime... obviously!

What I liked was his movement off the ball. Made a lot of intelligent runs that made space for others.

I thought Zarate was a bit of a quiet achiever when he played. A lot of good passes came from him. With Valencia Sakho and Zarate we have 3 goalscorers.

I saw him struggle against League 1 oppo the other week when he came on and played over 40 minutes... Lots of huff and puff but they had him covered very easily - worrying

You have to feel for this bloke being just ahead of Lee in the pecking order and then having to watch the hapless Cole and Nolan playing in some kind of parallel universe.

Zarate should have been bought on against United, as soon as Cole come on it was obvious we would not pull it back.

When the sloth in charge doesn't get a new contract, thats when You'll see Zarate flourish imo.

Bringing on Cole was the equivalent of Man U bringing on another defender. Deep in your hearts you know that's true!

BFS's response to Man U retreating with 10 men was to put on the big lad and bomb them. My response would be to put on the skilful lad and try & stretch them. The idea of putting on Carlton as a goal threat and to create knockdowns ( he can't head the ball) is like putting on a cap to protect you from a plane crash. Nolan I see as a last 15mins sub in games where we are chasing a late goal not as the key part of our forward structure. The manager and I are at odds over this I think you will find on Sunday.

I like Zarate. I thought he should have come on instead of Cole and certainly instead of Nolan. I am worried that Sam is preparing the way for Cole and Nolan again.

Strength in depth is the key.
Allardyce watches him in training every day. He's got us playing well and picking up points. And most importantly scoring goals. As long as that continues, I don't care who he picks.

"Carlton was put on for tactical reasons."
Wasn't he fucking just...
You put Cole on instead of Zarate cos if you put Zarate on first you effectively sideline Nolan.
Once you've got Cole on (ostensibly to 'knock the ball down') you can justify putting Nolan on for the knock downs.
Cole was simply his 'justification for introducing Nolan' if BFS was challenged on it by the two Davids.
I don't personally have a problem with Nobby coming on at the tail end of a game like on Saturday where we are chasing a goal, but I can't see any justification for starting him unless we are knee deep in injuries, and there are several better options if we need somebody to help tighten up for 15 minutes if we are in front.

Came to us injured and looked a bit off the pace. I think he'll improve and get his chances. No shame being kept out the side by players who are playing well. Needs to be up to the level required both physically and mentally to get a regular spot. Was robbed of the ball far too easily in his last game and you just are not going to get free kicks all the time in this league. I rate him as a finisher though. Good option to have.
